some trail cam pics and the buck I tagged gun hunting

The top two pics are of a buck that was checking out a scrape during the end of the rut, the last picture is of my uncle Rick, my grandfather August and myself, along with my "two pointer" and Rick's doe. I'll post the story of getting the buck tomorrow.
Thanks.

reader submitted photos

These pics were sent in from a gentlemen (who didn't want his name reveled, don't want to give up that spot where he hunts) who reads the blog. Some nice sparring pictures. Thank you for sending them in.

Beard time again.

It's that time of the year to grow a beard. With gun season just over a week away, I feel like I may have started too late this year, it's two weeks in and looking pretty full, but not as good as last year's model. I'm hoping for a little beard karma on Friday as the weather is supposed to be a lot better for bow hunting. I took Monday off, seeing as how Field and Stream said it was the best day of the year to hunt. I'll use any excuse to take a day off hunting. It was all for nothing. I got into my blind a half hour before sun rise and didn't leave till it was dark. Didn't see a single deer either, as it was way to warm out. Mid sixties doesn't make for good hunting weather, even during the rut. So I'll take a part of Friday off and see if mid forties and wet makes for better rut weather. I'm thinking it will.

I'll try posting the latest buck that was on the trail cam on Friday morning also. Just a little basket rack.

I'm toying with the idea of doing a hunting podcast too. Not sure yet, but maybe a couple saying how our bow hunting seasons went along with the gun season here in Wisconsin.

Thanks for checking out the blog, tell your friends.

Dad's buck.

My father, Ron, got this three pointer Saturday morning. He tagged him down in the riverbottoms where I shot my first deer with a bow, same tree. Earlier in the day he said he missed a small eight pointer, when his arrow hit a branch. That was early morning, this one came in after a lunch break, he shot the buck with his long bow, it walked away and circled back where he put another arrow through both lungs and it expired sixty yards away. Congrats, Dad.

Maybe we can get some pics of Andy's deer too, he is my brother and shot a ten pointer, if I'm not mistaken.

Tagged a doe 10/29/2010

I tagged my first deer of the season last Friday 10-29-2010. Two and a half year old doe. This is the only lone doe without a fawn that I've seen this year, and I told myself I am not going to shoot a doe anywhere near a fawn. Not that I ever have on purpose, but it happens and you feel like an ass afterwards. So she came in along the edge of the field and stopped fifteen yards out in front of my blind. I was close to giving up on blind hunting, as I prefer tree stand hunting, but they wouldn't come in to my tree line. So it worked out great and I'll keep everybody posted on whether or not I get a buck before gun season.
Below is another different buck that came across the trail cam, would've been a nice wide 8 if both antlers were there. Thanks for checking out the blog, check back often for more updates.

New Trail Cam Pics

Is this the same buck as I previously posted? They look the same, either way, it gets you pumped up to get back out there. I put my blind up down on the field and brushed it in pretty good last week too, so hopefully they will come in easier now. Got a half day of work today, then heading out hunting. Good luck everybody.

Trail Cam Pics

These three bucks were on the trail cam so far this year. The first two pics might be the same deer, it's hard to say. They were on there a couple of weeks ago, the third picture was taken in the last week and would look nice on my wall. So here is the start of the pics from this year. In the next couple of days I hope to put up some of the "cute" doe/fawn pictures that I've got too. Enjoy.

Well Hello There....

It's been a year alright. This spring I took my first turkey with a bow. A nice sized bearded hen from about fifteen yards out. She came in on the first day of the season and I shot just over her back and came back the next day to give me another crack at her. I didn't miss this time and put my new Montec broadhead through her jugular. Not exactly where I was aiming but it ended up working out, she didn't suffer at all. We managed to get it all on video too, so that was pretty sweet. With any luck I'll get all of my video transfered to digital and upload it on YouTube sometime. Don't hold your breath, but I'll try.

After a crazy summer, due to a car crash, I've finally got my bow sighted in and bow hunting again. The first time I was out I saw fifteen deer, mostly does and fawns, in the field in front of my stand. The field is about 150 yards out and on the other side of some very tall bushes. This was a corn field last year, but oats this year. Thinking about putting the blind back down there tonight. We'll see what happens. I did put out some Deer Cain infront of my tree stand, but after four days not much activity yet.

So I'll try keep updating this blog as the seasons progress. No promises as I'm pretty busy with my second child here and almost ten months old. My oldest son has his third birthday this month too. Put that in there with our podcasts we record and I tend to be pretty busy these days. Check them out at www.brewcrew365.com it's our Brewers, Packers and sports related podcast, or APL.Brewcrew365.com it's called Always Picked Last and it's a comedy podcast and lastly RCU.BrewCrew365.com Rico and Chico Uncensored another comedy podcast. Beware all of them have explicit ratings.

Season over.

My hunting season has finished for the year. It was a productive 2009 for myself. I took a turkey in the spring and a deer with each the bow and rifle in the fall. I was skunked late season bow hunting and fall turkey hunting. I only made it out a handful of times for late season bow hunting and didn't see much of anything.

Next week indoor 3d league starts up at the Willow River Rod and Gun Club. I'll try keep posting pics and such on this blog. I have a child due within a week or so, so the posts will be limited. I plan on putting in a food plot in the spring also, I'm planning on keeping pictures posted of how that turns out too.

Thanks for reading, hope you had a productive and enjoyable hunt.
