gun hunting opener

Gun hunting opened in WI this past weekend and we harvested four deer at our cabin. Which took out total taken at the cabin up to 99 deer in about twenty years. I took a year old doe on Sunday morning with my .308.

My dad shot a big doe and two bucks, a seven pointer and an eight pointer (which my sister ended up tagging). The doe came in first for him and he got it, then one of the bucks came in hot on her trail and he shot him only to have him turn around and run the way he came from. Then it came back out in the same spot and dad shot again thinking it was the same buck. It ran the other way and died. After he shot that one a even bigger buck came out. He said it was a monster buck, but couldn't shoot it due to already shooting one. After the big one left he checked the blood trails and noticed three different blood trails. They ended up being different bucks. All three deer he got were big bodied. Here is a picture of them, the antlers are very similar. I would've made the same mistake. My dad felt pretty bad about having to use my sisters tag for the second buck, but she understood that these things happen.

I'll be chasing a monster buck around the farm I hunt this week. I saw it bowhunting a couple of times. I most recently saw it the last day of bowhunting before gun season at about a hundred forty yards. Hopefully I'll take it down this week and get some more updates on here as soon as something happens. Thanks for checking out the blog again. - Ronald
